How many excellent universities does Russia need?

Currently rankings are the only objective measure to see how Russian universities perform on an international level. In THE’s newest ranking (find it here ) we can see that no Russian university made it to the top 100, and there are only two of them in the top 300. As Russian universities are highly specialized, they rank far better in subject rankings while this characteristic makes it harder for them to advance on the general institutional list. THE’s rankings by subject for engineering and computer science are out – 2018

132 out of the 500 universities on the list of the best ones at engineering and technology are from Asia, and 127 are from the US and Canada. The best Asian institution is the Peking University, China has a total of 35 universities on the list, while South Korea is also strongly represented with 22 institutions. As for the computer science ranking, the best Asian university is the National University of Singapore at the 13th place, while Peking is 20th. Both lists are led by US universities, namely Stanford in both rankings, Caltech comes second in engineering and MIT in computer science, while the University of Oxford takes third place in both.       Source: Times Higher Education 17/10/2017

Top 10 universities in the Arab Region – 2018

QS Ranking’s list of the best universities in the Arab Region is out for 2018. The American University of Beirut (AUB) is on the top of the list. It ranks 235th in the latest global ranking. It’s followed by three universities from Saudi Arabia. The rest of the top 10 list varies, there are two insitutions from the United Arab Emirates, and one from each Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and Oman. Top 10 universities in Asia – 2018

QS Ranking presented their newest list of the best universities of Asia. The first place is of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), founded in 1991 in Singapore. It also ranks first on the list of the world’s 50 best universities under 50 years. The second place also belongs to a Singaporean university, the National University of Singapore (NUS). Princeton is the first and Stanford is the second on the THE’s list of uiversities with the most Nobel prizewinners of the century. There is only one institution among the top 10 outside of the US, the Technion Israel Insititute of Technology, at the 10th place. Australia has six universities in the top 100, the first being the University of Melbourne ranking as 32nd, but two Chinese universities – Peking University (27th) and Tsinghua University (30th) - are higher in the overall ranking.
