World-class universities and the global common good

It is no surprise that universities contribute to the global common good. There are several ways for that. They are semi-independent from the government, having the tools to encourage their students to think critically. Still, they are hardly recognised as such institutions, and are a lot of times under-funded and under-provisioned.
