The Story of the UnivPress Ranking Hungary

  • 2000, October-November: The first Hungarian student ranking survey
  • 2001, autumn: Discussion with the members of the Conference of Hungarian Rectors
  • 2001, December: The first Hungarian higher education ranking named UnivPress Ranking is published on the website of Universitas Press (www.unipresszo.hu).
  • 2002, January: Daily News (Világgazdaság and Magyar Hírlap) also publish the results of the UnivPress Ranking.
  • 2004, Spring: The first conference about Management Culture in Higher Education organized by Eötvös Loránd University and UnivPress Ranking Group (further: 2007, 2008)
  • 2004, Autumn: The first ranking-book publication by the National Higher Education Information Centre and UnivPress Ranking Group, entitled Egyetemek mérlegen [Universities on the Scales] is published, ranking institutions in eight professional fields on the basis of over thirty aspects, building on research on student opinion. (further: 2005, 2006)
  • 2005, March,: The first ranking conference is held in Budapest in the Students’ Information Centre. Organizers: National Higher Education Information Centre (NHEIC)
  • 2006, December: The UnivPress Ranking (called as Felvi Ranking) is published in the weekly business magazine HVG Diploma supplement. From this time on the magazine prepares no individual rankings, but publishes the Felvi Rankings, which are also published in the information guides of NHEIC and in “Admissions Compass”.
  • 2007, autumn: The interactive online ranking version of the UnivPress-Felvi Ranking is published. Visitors can prepare their own rankings (“personal ranking”) on the basis of selected aspects from any fields of study, on the official higher education information website, www.felvi.hu.
  • 2008, autumn,: The academic journal Felsőoktatási Műhely [Higher Education Workshop] is first published by Educatio – NHEIC, in which the editors of the journal create an independent ranking section.
  • 2010, February: A seminar entitled “Chapters of Social-Psychology: The Perception of Higher Education—Higher Education Rankings” is started at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of Eötvös Loránd University in the undergraduate psychology program.
  • 2011, February: A postgraduate training: Higher Education Management and Communication of Science at Eötvös Loránd University Budapest, organized by Dr. György Fábri, leader of UnivPress Ranking, vice president of University.
